Unocal Corporation, a Fortune 500 company and worldwide supplier and distributor of energy products, was faced with the challenge of being able to provide cost effective training for essential software programs to help employees perform their jobs more effectively.

With 13,000 employees worldwide, the choice to use PTS materials proved to be a very profitable one for Unocal. The PTS courseware enabled Unocal to save $70,000 over a two year period and increase the productivity of employees.

Initially, Unocal used PTS courseware to support two corporate locations. After two years, Unocal experienced such a high degree of success with PTS products they signed a worldwide agreement to support six sites globally. They can now provide all of their employees worldwide with consistent content.

In addition to the annual savings in instructor-led training, Unocal discovered that PTS manuals are also effective as self-study guides. "The way the text is written and with the addition of the exercises, there is enough information in PTS manuals for our employees to use as self-study guides", Brown says. "In some situations, we are able to send our customized books along with the student data disks, and end users who were unable to attend a class could learn at their desktop."
